How to write units in this site (more)
A unit is written this way:
[prefix1] unit1 [exponent1] { [separator2] [prefix2] unit2 [exponent2] ...}
Where:
- separator is either " . " or " / "
- exponent is either " ² ", " ³ " or " ^ " followed by a number
- prefix is as defined below (case sensitive)
- unit is as defined below (case sensitive)
Example
Here are some of the possibilities to write pound per squared inch:
- psi
- lb/in²
- lb/in^2
- lb.in^-2
- lb/in/in
- lb.in/in³
- in^-2/lb^-1
Prefix
A prefix can be added to any defined unit. For example:
- mm → millimeter
- kpsi → kilopound per squared inch
- Mkg → megakilogram
- µµ → micromicron
- yLy → yoctolight-year
- aN/km/Gin → attonewton per kilometer per gigainch
